Blue Room

Date. 2015

San Juan del Obispo, Guatemala

In 2015 Casa San Juan commissioned the construction of a freestanding hotel structure comprising five rooms (blue, white, green, orange and yellow). Each of the rooms has unique features of interest. The outside of the hotel was encased with a wire mesh. This allows vines to easily grow on the structure, integrating the building with the surrounding verdant landscape.

The blue hotel room features both a terrace and mezzanine, as well as a private bathroom. The floor of the mezzanine was built using a concrete and polystyrene mix, as an experiment to reduce the aggregates needed in construction. The interior of this room has been finished with a cement and polystyrene mix, which gives the walls a textured and rustic feel.
